Well, it took two years for this day to come, but UK’s 2005 Gambling Act went into effect yesterday.
I think it is going to be very interesting to see what happens - a lot of the terms and conditions will need to be changed and it will be closely monitored. But in general, I think this is an excellent step for online gambling worldwide. It goes to show other countries that this market is here to stay and it can be regulated.
In terms of the Jackpot Factory, I wanted to clarify a few things. UK players are still more than welcome at our casino. However, we are constrained in our ability to advertise until we receive the correct license which we are in the process of applying for.
You see, the new law allows only casinos with an UK or EU license to actively market. And the Jackpot Factory operates on a Kahnawake license, which is located outside Montreal. Highly respected, the Kahnawake Gaming Commission has applied for an exception which will allow its licensed casinos to advertise in the UK.
So while this gets sorted out on our side, I wanted to let our British players know that our doors will always be open!
